Sona Karakashian is an associate in the Corporate Practice Group at Inventus Law.

Ms. Karakashian advises crowdfunding platforms, and startup companies looking to raise their initial investment rounds on these platforms by assisting them in navigating the ever-evolving equity crowdfunding regulations under the JOBS Act. Ms. Karakashian has extended her expertise in equity crowdfunding and general corporate and securities law to counsel startups and entrepreneurs utilizing the blockchain system to offer cryptocurrencies through the unregulated Initial Coin Offerings (“ICOs”).  Ms. Karakashian has participated in speaking engagements discussing the legal implications of unregulated offerings of cryptocurrency and how to legally structure ICOs.  

Prior to joining Inventus Law, Ms. Karakashian worked with CrowdCheck, Inc. in Los Angeles where she gained a wealth of experience in crowdfunding by assisting startup companies that utilize various forms of online capital raising including securities crowdfunding, offerings to accredited investors, and exempt public offerings of securities under Regulation A and Regulation Crowdfunding. Ms. Karakashian assisted companies in listing their securities with registered broker-dealers and other online securities intermediaries.

Ms. Karakashian received her B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. While in law school, Ms. Karakashian was involved in the Startup Legal Garage at the Institute for Innovation Law where she provided strategic guidance to early and development stage companies. While there, she published a note in the Hastings Business Law Journal on software patents and the effects of patent trolls on startup companies, businesses, and entrepreneurship.

Ms. Karakashian is a member of the State Bar of California. Ms. Karakashian is a Los Angeles native, foodie, adventurer, and enjoys playing tennis.
